Casual and girly outfit for a café date + Archive By Alexa Chung

It has been a while since I updated with any new content but I hope to get back to blogging more regularly now. I actually took these outfit pictures a month ago, but I had a random sickness/hospital episode (I am fine now!) soon after that so I didn`t have time to finish this post until now. But yeah, I thought it would be fun to share it with you anyway although the content is not totally recent! ^__^

This outfit presents my “casual everyday style” quite well and I think it is easy to feel comfortable while wearing these kind of outfits. : ) I ended up wearing the outfit to a café date with my boyfriend: our day consisted of walking around at the town in windy weather, visiting a few shops and then lastly sitting down in a café while planning out some stuff together. ^__^  I must add that when I plan to walk around all day I usually just wear my auntie ecco soft shoes haha (unlike in the picture, lol)! I never suffer from sore feet when I wear good walking shoes like them so unfortunately I often go for practical instead of pretty shoes these days. :’) Because of the chilly weather I actually also wore an army green jacket which I didn`t realise to include into my outfit pictures but in a month or so it should be warm enough for me wear this look out without a jacket. : ) And that is how I´d prefer to wear this outfit!

hair bow: H&M / top: Marks & Spencer / cardigan: Katie /skirt: second hand / handbag: Topshop / shoes: second hand (my grandma gave them)

I am a huge fan of high waisted (especially A-line) skirts and I think I don`t even own other kind of skirts anymore… Somehow I find high waisted cut really classical, girly and just generally flattering! I keep admiring some French actresses from the 60’s so I decided to have a little fun and use a picture of the café that appears in film “Amélie” as the background. I ended up shooting the pictures at home in the middle of mess so a background switch felt like a good idea hehe… But to be honest I can`t decide if I find this edit just awful and tacky or kind of OK… Making my vision work in reality turned out to be harder than I thought haha..! Oh well… ;)

Here is a picture of some of the pieces I wore as flat lay (I just couldn`t make the cardigan + shoes look good in the flat lay picture…. ught!) and I feel like saying a few things about the black t-shirt I wore. ^__^  I got it from Marks & Spencer a few days ago before wearing it (so about a month ago) and it was sold as a set with a similar white t-shirt. It is quite basic looking t-shirt but if you take a closer look you notice that the sleeves and the collar part have a cute trim detail and there is also small ribbon in front! I often wear basic black tops but I haven`t bought any new ones for about two years: when I accidentally came across this top I got really excited. It was so close to something I have been looking for: a classical black top with cute girly details that make your outfit a little more interesting than wearing just a super basic black t-shirt. Having this top in both black and white colour will be really handy and I can imagine myself wearing these two tops a lot!

The tops seem to be also available at Marks & Spencer webstore and they are actually part of a collection curated by Alexa Chung! I have never bought anything from M&S before and I must say I hadn´t heard about their Alexa Chung collection before I visited the store (that is not so surprising I guess..? :’)) but maybe some of her fans have been looking forward this collection already. The idea of the collection seems to be to bring some classical once produced M&S pieces back to stores as a small slightly modernized collection which has been curated by Alexa. I really like the idea behind this and the pieces Alexa has chosen to include into the collection are really interesting and versatile! I especially liked the tops I got (The Daphne Tee), the blue dress with puffy sleeves and the ribbon + keyhole detail (The Elsie Dress) and the black flower patterned slip dress (The Olive Slip). These two dresses would look so lovely worn together with a red cardigan and red lipstick, ah! :”’o

The Elsie Dress: the original vintage version on left and the modern Alexa Chung version on right

I found some pictures of the original pieces (that inspired the collection) online and I must admit that I find them still cuter than the new versions..! Although I like for example The modern Elsie Dress the vintage version appears much more charming to me which makes me wish they hadn`t changed the design, heh… :’) When I read some comments about the collection I noticed some other people saying the same thing. But it depends on your taste I guess!

The Olive Slip Sress

The Olive Slip Dress reminded me of some lingerie inspired dresses you see many Japanese brands producing at the moment. I think it could work well with Larme* inspired style for example (Larme is still my nro 1 inspiration at the moment!)! In real life the material felt really nice and like a “real dress” to me and not lingerie or nightgown like at all which was a positive thing in my opinion because pieces like that are often lovely but so delicate. When my mum saw this slip dress she first wondered if it is a dress or a nightgown though haha… But in any case I really like the style of this dress and especially how Pixie Geldof (I had to check her name since I had no idea who she is hehe… I am not very aware of celebrities I guess) wore it with a black top underneath. *o* So cute, practical and comfy!

Thanks for reading and I hope to get back to you soon again..! I also should be leaving to Japan next week and if everything goes as I have planned I´ll try to prepare some posts from my trip!

Hanging out with a poodle

For me January has gone really fast and somehow I have found time to dress up nicely only a few times so far. I have been really tired and stressed but yesterday I had some spare time so I thought it would be nice to doll myself up and wear the grey puff top I got on sale. During latest two years I haven`t made many sale purchases around Christmas/new year but this year I got super lucky and managed to grab a few sale items I had been eyeing since early autumn.poodlebaglook1_4

My outfits tend to be kind of casual but these days I try to remember to wear some accessories (please note the black ribbon on the top of my head haha). I especially like badges, hair bows and vintage style hair clips.

This pink poodle bag is one of my favourite things, I think it is so so cute and I love the fact that it is inspired by vintage Barbie`s bag. The same bag in light pink is currently -40% on sale on by the way!poodlebaglook_detail_4

Under the grey top I am actually wearing Katie`s Sweet Date dress which is suprisingly versatile piece: it even has pockets! I usually wear it over a long sleeved t-shirt or alone with a light cardigan if the weather is warm enough.poodlebaglook2_4I am still practising posing and taking better quality photos with my boyfriend`s camera + tripod. Our apartment doesn`t have any nice spots to shoot outfits so when the weather gets warmer I hope to try taking outfit photos outdoors too! I just have to find places where I can take them without other people staring at me haha… I feel way too shy and awkward about posing for my photos in front of bypassers!

Katie Spring & Summer 2016: BETTIE PAGE FAN CLUB

bettiepagefanclub_katieThis morning when I woke up I noticed that Katie`s Spring and Summer collection`s lookbook is finally online! I have had a huge crush for the brand for a few years now so seeing the pictures of their new collection is something I always look forward eagerly. This year their Spring/Summer collection is named “BETTIE PAGE FAN CLUB”* so I was especially curious about the looks and pieces of the collection. If you are interested to learn more about Bettie I recommend you to watch the document “Bettie Page Reveals All”. I watched it myself from Netflix and I thought she seemed so sweet and lovely!

I really like Katie because the brand`s style is girly and cute but in a little more mature way compared to some other Japanese brands, I think. Many of their clothes are also a bit edgy besides being cute: several Katie pieces feature John Willie`s bondage art and a popular theme in their stylings is to combine sweet and frilly pieces with faux leather.

Because this collection is something I have looked forward so much I thought it would be fun share my favourite looks and pieces from the new collection with some rambling. :) The whole lookbook with the prices and names of the items can be found here.

I ♥ BETTIE FAB babydoll dress vs. I ♥ BETTIE FAB puff top and corset skirt

These looks featuring Bettie Page pattern pieces are probably some of the most memorable and maybe most iconic pieces from this collection. I especially adore the look on the left featuring the puff top worn with the corset skirt + red Katie`s signature pom pom mules!

Casual and girly vs. Elegant and girly

I was happy to see that this collection also included some “classical” Katie pieces like new versions of UNDER PRETTIES series` pieces. UNDER PRETTIES series includes more simple style dresses, tops and skirts that often have a small bow or a similar detail, like the black dress on the left.

This collection also has some plushes like the rabbit the model is holding. I think that it is a nice idea to have new decorative items like this in the collection besides some cute pillows and glasses. I collect some vintage and designer toys myself but I am a little picky about the design/style of the toys and Katie`s plushes are not unfortunately quite my style.

White, pink, black and red seem to be the main colours of the collection.

Some of my ultimate favourites from the collection are Katie´s signature pom pom mules in new colours! I love those shoes eep, I wish this year I could finally grab my own pair of those, haha…

Bettie Page under panties are maybe the most fun items in this collection besides the Bettie Page print t-shirts. So cool!

Some of my favourite things are also the Lacy cardigans and the Triple heart mini fork in black: those are things that I`ll definitely add to my wishlist. *o*

I feel that the lookbook this year has lots of casual and minimalistic pieces which in my opinion makes this collection a little different from some of the previous collections. The overall feeling of “BETTIE PAGE FAN CLUB” collection also feels more mature to me than for example their A/W 2015 collection`s (PINK HITS). Many pieces are really versatile and classical, but some of them are even a bit too casual and simple to my liking. At the moment I prefer slightly girlier pieces with more obvious “Katie vibe” so I´ll probably keep my eyes on that kind of pieces. : )

Some more minimalistic looks. I like denim but in this collection the denim pieces like the jacket and the jeans feel a little “basic” to me.

Generally speaking I liked this collection and it has many great pieces but at the moment it feels like it is not probably among my top three favourites from Katie this far. We will see if I change my mind later when I see the shop staff doing coordinates with the pieces hehe…

What do you think about this collection? : ) Please feel free to share what items and looks you liked the most. : >

*EDIT: In february Katie released some so-called photobook pictures of the S/S 2016 collection under name “Rebel Lolita”. All the info about the collection I saw before had the name “Bettie Page Fan Club” printed so I assumed that is the name of the whole collection. It seems that the S/S 2016 collection might actually be named “Rebel Lolita” and only the selection of Bettie Page inspired items are part of “Bettie Page Fan Club” collection which is some kind of a mini collection under the main collection. : )

Her bookshelf: Get Up Girly – for neo girly girls

amo_book_1Get Up Girly is a guide for neo girly style directed by Japanese model and producer Amo. The book came out already in 2014, but I got mine last summer when I visited Japan. A few years ago I noticed how a few Japanese fashionistas and magazines started to use the term “neo” in front of different styles, for example the term “neo-gal” (neo gyaru) appeared and apparently also “neo girly”. To me the title of the book sounds almost like a quirky manifesto: “It is time for girliness to make a come back!”.

To be honest I don`t really know too much about the philosophy behind the term since I don`t understand much Japanese but judging from the pictures that Get Up Girly provides neo girly means style that is girly (obviously), vintage inspired, sophisticated and sweet. Maybe something like being your own version of lovely 60s’ icons like Anna Karina or Brigitte Bardot with a modern twist? At least this is the feeling I got from the book. ;)

I remember seeing the term neo girly appear also on Larme magazine`s older issues and I think that this book could still work as a nice guide for Larme style too. The elements and style tips Amo introduces fit the style (Larme) really well in my opinion!

_DSF4313_edit_3amo_book3_DSF4402-Edit_3 _DSF4333-Edit_3

In the book Amo for example introduces her choices for ten “must” have items for neo girly style. Most of the things and brands mentioned are more on the high end side, but you still get nice ideas for classic and versatile pieces to include into your warbrobe. I think most pieces mentioned can be easily found from several, more affordable brands too. Besides one of the key elements to the style that the book presents seems to be combining more expensive brand stuff with cheap second hand. : )

amo_booknew_DSF4357_edit_3_DSF4382-Edit_3amobook_4As a handy guide for someone who plans to travel to Tokyo the book also features several interesting shopping places: cozy vintage shops and other unique looking shops. Generally speaking the book includes lots of tips and ideas about different subjects like movies, music and make-up.

_DSF4388-Edit_3As a huge Katie fan (a Japanese women`s fashion brand) I also have to mention about the little interview with Linda and Taki who are the creators of the Katie brand. I am really curious about the content of this part of the book but unfortunately I can`t get much out of it. I have to try to translate it at some point. ; )

Get Up Girly has lots of pictures and inspiring content. The book`s carefully created design is something I really like and I find Amo`s personal style in the book cute although it is much more toned down from her most popular modeling days.

The book has 112 pages and can be ordered for example from The price of a new book is 1280 yen (about 10 €) but as second hand it can be bought even cheaper.

Brands to explore: Le Meow

Le Meow designer Emi

Some days ago I accidentally came across a small Japanese brand called Le Meow on tumblr and I fell in love with the cute film photos on their tumblr blog. The brand`s designer Emi is a vintage lover and that shows in Le Meow`s beautiful photos. Their products give me a nice boudoir vibe and remind me a little of brands like Fifi Chachnil. I found Emi`s photos and style super inspiring and Le Meow`s products are perfect for any girly vintage lover. : ) I will definitely keep my eyes on this brand!
