Powder pink and floral embroidery

I just realised it has been almost three months since I updated my blog last time! I have been quite busy so far in 2017 and spring has gone unbelievably fast: it should be almost summer even here in Finland but I can`t even remember as cold May as this one is. Last week on one day we had more snow than at Christmas Eve lol!

While I waiting for summer to arrive I want to share is my most recent spring coordinate with you! ^__^

hair band: F.i.n.t / cardigan: Ank Rouge / skirt: one after another NICE CLAUP / bag: mon Lily / ballerina shoes: Clarks

I have been wearing this ruffle trimmed Ank Rouge cardigan I got a few weeks ago a lot lately and I liked it so much that I ended up getting it also in white. :’) I had been looking for an opportunity to wear my newish light pink ballerina shoes as well and since they match with the light pink Ank Rouge cardigan quite well I decided to build this outfit around these two items.
I usually wear only a few if any accessories which probably makes many of my outfits appear quite simple. Maybe putting more effort into accessories could be one of my “style missions” for this year? ; ) I tried to add some details into this look by wearing my mon Lily faux suede bag and the black ribbon hair band that is one of the newest additions into my hair accessory collection. Besides being easy to coordinate with almost any outfit this F.i.n.t hair band turned out to be really comfortable: I often get a headache even after 15 minutes of wearing a hair band so I was happy to be able to wear this one for hours!

hermysteriousbusiness_noora_4

I finally found a perfect warm red matte lipstick from NYX, happy-happy! The name of the shade is “Pure Red Rouge Pur”!

Items with embroidery details seem to be a huge trend this spring/summer and I remember seeing some items featuring embroidery already in atumn/winter collections. I actually like this trend but some of the embroidered clothes are slightly too bohemian style to fit into my personal style so at the moment this velvet skirt is the only embroidery piece I have.

The skirt a lucky sale found I bought during Christmas sales but I think it is very wearable even in spring/summer although the material is a little thicker. I was surprised how many compliments this skirt has gotten and the quality is really good too: the shade of the black is so deep that it makes some of my black tops look awkwardly grey haha. The floral details are nicely sewn and I really hope that they will last beautiful for a long time..! ♡hermysteriousbusiness_noora_3

It might not be obvious but this time I tried to curl the ends of my hair slightly: hair styling is another thing I hope to put more effort into this year hehe. I cut my hair chin length just before New Year and although I have always liked shorter hair styles this time I felt a bit unsure about the result.

There was nothing wrong with the cut and usually I get used to my new hair quickly but somehow this time I couldn`t feel as enthusiastic about my new look as usually. I started to wonder that maybe short hair simply doesn`t feel “my style” as much as it used to and now when my hair has grown into medium length I feel more like “myself” again. I guess it was nice to try shorter hair again and I actually looked forward to it but for now I think I will stick to medium length or long hair for a while hehe. ^__^

How is spring/summer looking for you so far? I hope you are all well! ♡

coat, choker & shoes: RoseMarie seoir / bag: vintage / fihnets: tutuanna

After getting my RoseMarie seoir Happy Bag I was excited about trying to make a coordinate with some of the items I received. I came up with a simple outfit for spring featuring the beige sailor style coat, the velvet choker and the pom pom heels – my favourite things from the Happy Bag. Unfortunately it is still way too cold for clothes like these so I probably have to wait till April before I can actually wear this type of outfits outdoors. :’)

coordinate3_RoseMarieSeoir

To be realistic I doubt I´ll actually wear this coat together with the pom pom heels in real life since I feel the coat would look nicer paired up with some darker coloured shoes. Some other coloured clothes would probably flatter the heels better too!

I must admit that these pom pom heels are not the easiest to walk with, but then again I might be just clumsy hehe… The heels are super cute and I have been wanting shoes like them for a while but I have a feeling I might use them mostly for the outfit pictures and indoors to be practical. I am a little lazy with “difficult” shoes and besides I am often in a hurry: running while wearing these shoes isn´t probably the best idea heh!

coordinate1_RoseMarieSeoir

My attempt to coordinate the coat with something somehow made me like it even more and now I feel I might have more use for it than I first thought. I look forward wearing it especially with classical marine/sailor themed colors such as red and navy blue! Hopefully I’ll manage to feature an outfit like that here on my blog too when spring comes. : )

Thanks for taking your time reading this blog post!

Ps. I wish I didn`t had to include the dark blue rug into the pictures and ruin the colour scheme, but the heels kind of disappeared into the floor without it… ^__^;

RoseMarie seoir Happy Bag 2017 review

RMS happy bag 2017

RoseMarie seoir fukubukuro 2017 promo picture

In the end of 2016 I ended up preordering my second lucky bag (or Happy Bag) ever! In early 2016 ordered my first fukubukuro from Japanese brand Katie and luckily I was quite satisfied with the things I received.

Originally I thought I would skip all the lucky bags this year but then I saw RoseMarie seoir`s lucky bag: a 21 600 yen (175€) Happy Bag including items worth about 60 000 yen (488€)! I have adored RoseMarie seoir`s items once in a while for a few years but some of them might be a little too sweet and cute for my personal style so somehow I never purchased anything.

This year the RMS`s Happy Bag seemed very tempting though: the Happy Bag was promised to even include a pair of shoes (worth about 15 000 yen) and you were able to request the design and colour you would like to get! Especially the idea about receiving a pair of my preferred shoes made the deal seem very appealing and at last I gave up to temptation and just ordered the fukubukuro.

A random and sneaky interior picture with the Happy Bag since it matches the rug I made recently hehe…

Because of the customs it took about three long weeks before I finally received my order and I was quite nervous. I knew that the bag should include a few pieces of clothing, some accessories or small goods and the requested shoes. Since everything by RoseMarie seoir is not 100% my style I was worried I´d receive something I didn`t like much or even worse: something a little too small for me (I am not too familiar with their sizing). I also got an impression that if the shoes you requested were out of stock they would replace them with the same design in different colour and I really hoped I could at least receive the shoes I liked – if everything else turned out to be a miss haha…

A close-up of the Happy Bag

The RoseMarie seoir`s fukubukuro bag this year is super cute but the quality is not mind-blowing – apparently fukubukuro bags often tend to be made kind of cheaply. The bag looks nice in pictures and I like the design but the it is unlined and the material is some kind of synthetic fibre with toilet paper-like texture. The material seems quite strong though and the bag is relatively big.

My Happy Bag included:

♥ Sailor inspired trench style coat in beige

♥ 2 x Little Twin Stars & RoseMarie seoir collaboration plastic document holders

♥ Velvet choker with heart shaped “himitsu” charm in dark blue

♥ Sheer white tights with cat embroidery details

♥ “Bunny tail” choker in mint (the necklace with pom poms)

♥ Pair of pom pom heels in beige pink (the shoes I requested!)

The coat`s silhouette is a-line with flared hem.

Immediately when I opened the Happy bag I realized I had gotten a coat and unfortunately it was the only actual piece of clothings I received. I was relieved that the coat is cute though: the colour is classical beige and the sailor inspired details are nicely made and still kind of mature. The quality seems good to me although the material is 100% polyester. I am happy that the coat fits me and my style but the problem is that I was already planning to buy a classical beige trench coat this spring. This coat is close to one but still not exactly something I was thinking: would it feel silly to buy a similar coloured trench coat now?

Little_twin_Stars_RMS_small_pcat_tights_RMS_small_p
When I saw the plastic document holders I was a little disappointed because I would rather had received some accessories. Funnily enough I have already started using them anyway so maybe they were something I actually needed haha…

The cat embroidery tights I got are cute but left me feeling very neutral and I don`t particularly look forward wearing them. Since I always wear a skirt or a dress I will likely still have some use for them when it gets warmer.

RMS_himitsu_bunnytail_small_p

The necklaces I received are luckily nice and I especially like the velvet choker: I am often a little picky with any statements and texts written on clothes or accessories but luckily “himitsu” (meaning “secret” in Japanese haha) is still neutral enough for me.

The pom pom necklace named “bunny tail choker” is lovely too and I considered buying it in black or beige pink last summer. Unfortunately mint colour doesn`t match with my clothing too well but I could maybe imagine myself wearing the choker with black coordinates. Still I might consider selling or giving it to someone who likes to colour better. : )

The shoebox is so cute!

pompom_heels-RMS_small_p

The pom pom heels are something I looked forward the most and I am really happy with them! They even came with extra heel caps which was a nice addition! However when I examined the shoes better I started to wonder how well they will last in use. The shoes have some nice details that are carefully made such as the golden “RoseMarie seoir” plates on the soles but as you can expect in the shoes like these many parts seem to be glued on. I am a little paranoid if the gluing will start coming off sooner or later but if so I hope that won`t happen too soon. (ㄒoㄒ)

The extra heel caps!

The extra heel caps!

There is also one other thing that worries me a little: the toe area in these heels is lined with the same satin-like material as the outer parts and I was already able to spot a light stain there. It looks like the shoe has gotten some water on it and this must have happened already before I received them. Luckily when you wear the shoes (or don`t observe them too carefully) the stain is hardly noticeable but I especially in new products I personally find even minor faults like this a little disappointing. I am also afraid that the satin lined area under the toes will get nasty looking and dirty quite easily but then again these type of delicate shoes are probably often worn indoors only.

RMS_stain_closeup_small_p

If you watch carefully you can see the light stain on the right.

In the end I have a little mixed feelings about this Happy Bag and the items I received. I didn`t hate anything but I must admit that I might had rather received for example a dress instead of the coat. The value of the coat is quite a lot, apparently around 34 000 yen so that is probably the reason why it was the only piece of clothing my Happy Bag included. I think that especially the accessories I received could had been nicer and I saw many girls getting a cute bag and even a wallet (besides other small goods/accessories) when they received a few a little cheaper pieces of clothing. Somehow it seems like the amount of the goods/accessories I received was quite small considering how modest they are, maybe the high value of the coat had an effect on that?

I tried my best to write this review pretty honestly and although I wasn`t 100% happy with the items I received I think the RoseMarie seoir Happy Bag deal was still pretty good this year for someone who likes their designs. Usually you have to pay about 20 000-27 000 yen for their onepiece only! I also spied the contents the others got on instagram and many seemed to receive very nice items like a onepiece besides a cute bag, some jewelry, a pair of frilly socks and the shoes they requested! ♥

It was exciting to try the RMS Happy Bag but next year I will probably consider carefully if I am willing to take the risk with the unknown contents again. ^__^ The sales after New Year are generally good anyway so it might be wiser to just buy the items you truly want or need.

What do you think: was this lucky bag a hit or miss? Did you try your luck with any fukubukuros this year? : )

Christmas tree and rambling about the ornaments

Hi there! I hope you are having great time whether you are celebrating Christmas, enjoying Holidays or doing something else!

This year me and my boyfriend spent the Christmas Eve with my family at my childhood`s home. However, since we moved into a new place last autumn, we thought it would be fun to have our own Christmas tree for the first time too, and start some new Christmas traditions! Decorating the tree made me so excited that I really wanted to share some pictures of it here on my blog… *o*

christmastreeOur apartment is located in an old building so we liked the idea of trying to create somewhat “traditional Finnish Christmas feeling” that we remember from our own childhoods. Me and my boyfriend really tried to look for some Christmas ornaments similar to ones we had seen in the 90s but it turned out harder than I expected… We had never really decorated our apartment for Christmas before, so we didn`t even own any decorations to start with!

The handmade bird ornaments were so cute that I just had to buy three of them! They are by Mifuko.

A strange angel ornament (you can see angel figures like this at Petäjävesi Old Church, which is one of the few UNESCO sites in Finland) and a red wooden pearl ornament by Verso Design. My gingerbread icings turned out kind of ugly haha…

After looking from several places I managed to find only a few ornaments that fit our vision. Besides them we decided to get a set of candle lights, a red and silver coloured garlands and some simple golden ball ornaments. We decorated the tree already on the 21st and since our tree still looked quite minimalistic my boyfriend baked some gingerbread that we used as extra ornaments haha…

A Traditional style straw ornament! We got ornaments like these from my parents among a few other things.

When we visited my parents` on the Christmas Eve, they kindly let us have some of their old ornaments and those were just what we had been looking for! Some nostalgic stuff from the 90s, yay! Today when we returned home we added the old ornaments to our tree and now I am really happy with how it looks! Somehow the Christmas tree makes our home feel so cozy and cute that it makes me a little sad that we can`t keep it at our living room around the year haha… (^・ェ・^)

How did you spend your Christmas? Do you have special plans or hopes for the Holidays?  : )

Kyoto Nishiki Market and bento box hunting

I still have lots of photos and blog ideas left from my summer 2016 Japan trip so I try to keep blogging about some places I visited slowly but surely. Soon it will be 2017 so I better get more quickly at finishing my posts, haha… In this post I am going to share some pictures from Kyoto`s famous Nishiki Market and talk a little about my Bento box hunting!

nishiki_overview2

Nishiki Market in Kyoto is probably one of the “must see” places I Kyoto and although I visited there already in summer 2015 me and my boyfriend wanted to revisit there on our second trip. Nishiki Market is full of small shops where you can find all kinds of food related things such as seafood, knifes, sweets and different kinds of “Kyoto specialities” like tsukemono (“pickled things”) besides some souvenirs and accessories.

The small boxes in the middle have some uni in them!

This year my main mission for the Nishiki Market was to taste some uni (sea urchin). After watching Japanese tv-series called “Amachan”, in which both diving and eating sea urchins plays an important part, I had gotten really curious about how uni actually tastes like.

My wish came true and we easily found some raw uni and ended up buying a tiny box of it. I personally liked the flavor (I think) but my boyfriend thought the taste was slightly “sea-water-like” to him and later during our trip we ended up trying a few actual uni dishes and even I had a little mixed feelings about them, haha… It takes a while to get totally used to the taste I guess! I still hope to try unidon (the food they constantly eat in Amachan) one day!

I love this package design, ah!

Nishiki Market is a great place to find some traditional kinds of snacks and sweets and getting some food related souvenirs (among other things). I absolutely love Japanese package design and even more affordable products are often very beautiful packed, also in Nishiki Market! I admit buying several products only because I liked the packaging but trying out new things won`t probably do harm, hehe. I have found most of the snacks and sweets really yummy so far!

Snacks, tea towels, hand fans and much more.

Nishiki Market has nice atmopshere, interesting possibilities to try out different foods and I like how the place looks like but unfortunately it is often really crowded… Personally I get really tired if I have to spend too much time in crowded places so I try to avoid the busiest times if just possible. I would guess that the best time to visit places like Nishiki Market are normal weekdays and possibly kind of early in the morning.

Last summer one of my shopping goals for the trip was to find myself a cute bento box! In Finland lunch boxes tend to be kind of basic and even a little ugly so compared to that Japan`s lunch box selection seems almost endless.

Korilakkuma Halloween Bento by Shirley Wong

Seeing cute food and bento by Shirley Wong on instagram always makes me smile and I hope to try out some of her recipes one day. During my trip I also bought a few bento specialized cookbooks from Book Off (a second hand book store chain) so I naturally still needed to find a bento box, haha… During my lunch box hunt I decided to snap some photos of my favourite bento boxes: I photographed mostly cute and colourful boxes but especially Tokyu Hands had also more traditional and simple designs available!

bentoboxes1

Han (introduced a few posts earlier) had some really cute lunch boxes and their furoshiki selection was also quite good!

Han

I admit that my criterion for the lunch box was mostly cuteness and not so much the practicality. There were also lots of different designs available from simple, traditional and mature to cute and artsy which made my decision quite difficult!

I noticed that the many of the boxes that appealed to me the most were kind of small: some of them might have been meant for children or then I may be more used to bigger portion sizes, eheh… While looking for my Bento box in Kyoto I visited Han, Bento&co and Tokyu Hands before I found my favourite lunch box.

These bento boxes in Tokyu Hands were among my favourites!

I think that Tokyu Hands` selection seemed especially diverse and interesting which is handy, because they have stores all around Japan (so you can find them outside of Kyoto too!)!. In the end I fell in love with an oval shaped lunch box they had by AIUEO. I couldn`t resist their charming illustrations and cute pastel shades! I bought two sets of bento boxes featuring the bird character (each set includes three small boxes) and a matching furoshiki.
