Brands to explore: F.i.n.t & an another angelus + SS17 collection “Angela”

This look from F.i.n.t`s SS16 catalog made me fall in love with F.i.n.t and the picture is overall just lovely.

F.i.n.t`s SS16 (Félicia). This is one of my favourite F.i.n.t/an another angelus catalogue photos ever!

This time I am going to talk about Japanese fashion brand F.i.n.t and its sister brand an another angelus! They have been around for a while already (if I’ve understood right, F.i.n.t was originally established already in 1984!) but I found out about them properly only last summer. Since then I’ve gotten to really like both of the brands.

To me F.i.n.t and an another angelus both look highly vintage inspired and girly. It took me a while to figure out what is the difference between the two of them: is an another angelus a clothing line under F.i.n.t or are they sister brands..? After doing a little research I came to a conclusion that these two are indeed separate brands, however under the same mother company, and they are both sold at F.i.n.t online store. The brand concept written into the official website gave me an impression that F.i.n.t`s look is a mixture of classical vintage style and modern girly trends, whereas an another angelus` clothes are a bit more mature and feminine, but still vintage inspired as well.

Even the old F.i.n.t/an another angelus catalogs are beuatiful! This is F.i.n.t SS15 (Rochefort)

I Iove the graphic design of F.i.n.t & an another angelus catalogues! F.i.n.t SS15 (Rochefort)

Rochefort_Fint2

F.i.n.t SS15 (Rochefort)

A few years old Universal Doll article informed me that originally F.i.n.t stores used to carry a selection of an another angelus pieces, but in 2014 F.i.n.t and an another angelus had separated their businesses in their own individual stores. Now in 2017 the official shoplist still lists an another angelus stores so apparently the separated physical stores have remained.

As I already mentioned earlier, I got familiar with F.i.n.t and an another angelus only last summer, and thinking back I am almost shocked of how I had managed to be unaware of them for so long! Haha… Since last summer I have been very inspired by both of the brands and I keep checking their online store and shop staff coordinates regularly.

an another angelus AW16 (Petulia)

F.i.n.t and an another angelus seem to share the same collection name every season, and they also present their new items under one catalogue that is divided into to parts for each brand, so you can tell which items are by F.i.n.t and which by an another angelus. I personally like both brands about equally, but I noticed that usually, for some reason, an another angelus` collections seem to include a little less items than F.i.n.t`s.

Floral patterns and vintage inspired accessories!

What I especially like about F.i.n.t and an another angelus is their strong vision and brand concept. The style of their catalogues is very movie–like and it is easy to imagine that there is some kind of of story behind the pictures: you almost feel like browsing an art book. Most of the collections have a women´s name: there have been collections named Marjorie, Nancy, Félicia and Petulia for example.

The shop staff coordinates are also very enjoyable to look at, and the shop staff runs blogs that are actively updated with their most recent outfits and new arrivals. Although the clothes are not true vintage, I think both of the brands manage to recreate the vintage feeling quite well and in a very tasteful way.

F.i.n.t AW15 (Nancy). I love the illustrations!

To me F.i.n.t`s and an another angelus´ catalogues are among some of the most beautiful ones I have seen, and it was extremely hard to pick only a few examples as you can see! For their catalogues they use mostly foreigners as models, and the locations featured look like they could be in Europe or USA. Maybe this way they try to reach “the vintage feeling” similar to that in 60s European movies or something!

These two styles look like something that Anna Karina could had worn in the film Une femme est une femme! (an another angelus, SS17 Angela)

F.i.n.t & an another angelus SS17 “Angela”

F.i.n.t`s and another angelus` Summer/Spring 2017 catalog was released recently and the current collection is named “Angela”. The main inspirations of this collection are marine fashion, floral patterns and 60s film heroines: especially Angéla (acted by lovely Anna Karina) from the film “Une femme est une femme”. The film features Anna Karina wearing some amazing and most enviable outfits, and many of these looks have been recreated by several bloggers and vintage lovers.

Angela_Fint2

SS17 (Angela)

The pieces inspired by Anna Karina`s look in the film include the name “Angela” in their titles and so far there are at least ribbon hair bands, a collared one piece in red and black and a long sleeve top with Angéla print. A few pieces that are not yet available remind me of the lingerie pieces featured in Anna Karina`s “sailor stripping scene” which I found very interesting.

Because the new SS17 catalogue doesn`t seem to include all the pieces of the collection, there might be more Angéla inspired items yet to come.

Since I am also a huge fan of the movie Une femme est une femme and Anna Karina`s looks in it, I am thrilled to see clothes inspired by it! I already ordered myself the red Angela dress and I am hoping to purchase a few other items later.

The new collection seems to be selling well on Fashionwalker, and some clothes are already sold out after just a few days. Luckily most of the things are still available at the official F.i.n.t online store so that might be worth checking out if you saw something you fancy!

Katie SS 2017 collection: “Rose & Daughters”

virginsuicides_2-copy

“The Virgin Suicides” (1999)

I have been checking Katie`s website for about a month hoping they would release the SS 2017 lookbook and today it is finally online! The Spring and Summer collection this year is called “Rose & Daughters” and judging from the decorations of their SS 2017 exhibition one of the main inspirations for this collection must be the film “The Virgin Suicides” by Sofia Coppola. One of the collection´s dresses is even named “Rose Garden´s lux’s dress” after one of the film`s main characters!

After eyeing the lookbook for a while I spotted the words “Hanging Rock” in the names of several items and got curious: the name sounded a little random to me so I googled it. I found out that there is actually a film called “Picnic at Hanging Rock” (which suddenly started to sound awfully familiar…) directed by Peter Weir and after seeing the school girls in the film wearing white frilly dresses and straw hats I became convinced that some items of the collection are definitely inspired by this film as well!

Dreamy sceneries from the “Picnic at Hanging Rock”.

Unfortunately I haven`t seen “Picnic at Hanging Rock” myself but I love its aesthetics and the plot seems fascinating so I really want to see it now! After doing some research about the film (while trying to not spoil myself) I also realised that the girls in the film are students at “Appleyard College” which probably explains the “Apple Yard Collage” text in one of the collection`s t-shirts! Wikipedia also taught me that even Sofia Coppola was fascinated by “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and the film had an influence on both “The Virgin Suicides” and “Marie Antoinette”.

It isn`t probably a coincidence that Katie also decided to combine the aesthetics of these two films in the same collection. After finding out about the references to “Picnic at Hanging Rock” I wouldn`t be surprised if there were more inspirations and other references that I totally missed haha…

Lastly some thoughts about the collection itself: the colour palette this Spring/Summer seems to be quite typical to Katie including white, pale pink, light blue and black. Red and bordeax also seem to be present like in the A/W 2016 collection which is great since I have grown to like these colours a lot! A few olive green/khaki pieces are also included.

I think these looks are very cute!

These two looks are so cute! The blue overall is lovely although I couldn`t probably pull it off myself.

Although this collection is mostly quite different from the SS 2016 collection I feel there are some similarities too. In the both collections there are some denim items (jeans and coats) and several simple, casual style clothes at least compared to other collections, for example A/W 2016. The overall feeling of the collection is quite mature and minimalistic and I must admit that I miss the more girly “Katie feeling”. I´d like to love this collection but I must admit that many of the items look a little too simple to my taste.

Some looks featuring the jeans of the collection. I hardly wear trousers so these are not really my style.

The new collection includes two types of high waisted jeans.

The two looks are among the most simply and mature ones of the collections

These two looks are probably among the most minimalistic and mature ones in the whole collection.

I think it is interesting to see Katie doing new things and seeing Elli-Rose modeling the lookbook was a nice surprise: I think she is a little different from the models they have used in the past (typical Katie model seems to be a cute girl with bangs).

I already briefly talked about this with Sara Mari and we both agreed it was interesting to see Katie using a little more mature style model like Elli-Rose which kind of shows that Katie is also for women in their 30s! That makes me happy because in a few years I will already be closer to 30 than 20 myself and I still hope to wear Katie as long as I like their stuff haha…

katiess2017

I really like the white + bordeaux combination on the left and the black Café Chic high waist skirt (on the right) is one of my all the time favourite Katie pieces.

I feel that many items from “Rose & Daughters” don`t really suit my personal style but I liked the inspirations behind the collection and the film references. My favourite items from the collection are the Café Chic high waist skirt that does a come back in black and the bordeaux red Rosemary skirt and camisole one-piece.

After seeing how different this collection is compared to their older collections I keep wondering if Katie has started to change their brand identity a little by little. I guess that the next collection might reveal if they take a few steps back to their signature items and girly look or continue to produce more minimalistic and mature pieces.

How do you feel about the new collection? What are your favourite pieces? ^__^

My A/W 2016 inspirations: “a-60s-Parisian-girl-wanna-be”

Autumn has gone so fast that I can hardly believe that it is already October! Luckily autumn this year has turned out to be quite pleasant and the weather has been really sunny and beautiful! I miss the warmness of summer already but I still think that autumn is the best time for dressing up nicely! Like last autumn I am full of inspiration and I am (probably a little too) excited to talk about my autumn/winter 2016 favourites! Heh…

I guess that my taste hasn`t really changed dramatically since last year: I am still nuts about the 60s, Larme magazine and girly style generally so I am afraid that my choices might be a little predictable haha… I think that in a nutshell my A/W 2016 inspiration could be called something like “a-60s-Parisian-girl-wanna-be”  althought the reality doesn`t probably match with that description totally. In the end I am not sure how an authentic 60s Parisian girl would be plus everything I like is not 100% 60s style.

COLOURS: RED / BEIGE / LEOPARD

This autumn/winter I am loving quite classical colour combinations and I especially like red, beige and black. My favourite colour in clothes at the moment is definitely red – although this colour has only quite recently re-arrived into my wardrobe. My curiosity for red started already last autumn and the curiosity has slowly developed into a small obsession I guess, hehe. I love red because it is bold and colourful but still so sophisticated. It gives me a nice retro feeling and I also find it very feminine colour at the moment! This year at least bordeaux red seems to be a trend colour since I have noticed many brands using it lately.

Beige and camel (brown) haven`t been much present in my wardrobe either but lately I have started to like this kind of shades more and more. I currently like beige/camel especially in skirts and coats and somehow they look really nice worn together with some red colour. Beige feel very classical and “vintage” (inspired?) to me and I like that impression!

I´d love to recreate this The Umbrellas of Cherbourg inspired look by Katie!

My third favourite colour for this A/W is actually not a colour but a pattern: my leopard madness continues! Leopard pattern seems to also be a mainstream trend at the moment so it is a great timing for all the leopard pattern lovers to look for the pieces their wardrobes have been missing. I like leopard pattern in skirts, berets, cardigans, coats, bags and… Well, apparently in about everything (when talking about clothes and accessories) heh! In any case my personal “rule” for wearing leopard pattern would probably be to stick up with only one leopard piece at time to avoid any accidental tackiness. Maybe wearing a leopard beret or + a leopard skirt or something similar together would still be acceptable even in my books though haha… But yeah, this totally depends on your personal taste!

MY FAVOURITE PIECES FOR A/W 2016

After rambling a little about the colours I still wanted to talk about some “must have” pieces for A/W 2016. Naturally these are only my personal choices but even though I try to not obsess over trends some of the the items I like are probably more or less trendy at the moment too. Considering my taste and the things I already mentioned above many of my favourites are not probably that surprising! ; )

Lately I have tried to start paying more attention to the materials of the clothes I buy (or plan to buy). So far I have had quite little knowledge about the qualities and downsides of different materials but I am curious to learn more about this subject. I am also more and more interested to invest in good quality and ethical products, although unfortunately everything I buy doesn`t fill these requirements 100% at least yet. But yeah, I am trying to learn to consider my purchases more carefully!

When shopping Japanese brands (that I like so much) online I have also noticed that suprisingly many brands sometimes have rather high prices considering that the material they use might be “just” polyester, acrylic or similar (something that you don`t probably consider that good quality). Several times when randomly browsing different brands on Fashionwalker online store I have seen clothes that are priced around 70-150€+ but the main materials are still polyester and acrylic. So yeeees, this year I think I will be curiously eyeing the material tags a little more carefully than before and if I see some natural fibres mentioned I consider that positive. :’)

COATS: a beige trench / camel (coloured) wool coat

This year my favourite coat styles are a classical trench and a vintage style wool coat (I already admired some last year!). In colours I adore beige and camel that are both quite timeless shades. I would wear the trench during the autumn and go with the wool coat during cold winter period.

wool-coats_beigecamel

wool coats by beautiful people and Katie

After not buying a new winter coat for a few years this autumn I finally gave myself permission to buy a new winter coat and I would love to find a classical (camel coloured hehe) wool coat! Maybe it is still a little too early autumn(?) or something but so far have had problems to find the simple vintage inspired designs that I am looking for… Besides this I have realised how many coats that look like wool coats are actually not made of wool but for example… polyester (again)! :’) Many of these polyester coats are awfully cute but I wonder if they are warm enough for the freezing Finnish winter… Hmmm… My search continues!

DRESSES: a velvet dress

I have liked velvet for years already and I already own a few kind of basic velvet pieces that I consider as my “autumn clothes” (generally speaking velvet seems to be worn mostly in autumn and winter time?). I like how velvet feels and looks and luckily it is quite warm too! I remember seeing velvet pieces well presented in A/W collections for years already and also this year they seem to be trendy and popular again. This is fine for me because I would happily welcome a few new velvet pieces into my wardrobe, hehe! Lately I have spotted velvet pieces most often in black, light pink, emerald green and bordeaux red and my personal favourites are (based on my favourite AW colours naturally, hehe) black and bordeaux red.

Currently my favourite styles are the simple skater dress (I have two of these myself!) or camisole dress and the ones with white collars (vintage inspired look). Lately I also find myself liking some patterned velvet pieces like the dress (see the image above) from Jill by Jill Stuart. Especially floral patterns on a dark background appeal to me but unfortunately I can`t find this kind of style too often…

Besides velvet dresses I am also in love with velvet skirts: they are comfy and cute! I like black velvet skirts the best: they are super easy to coordinate and create a nice contrast when worn with other colours.

a vintage inspired plaid skirt

I recently watched the film “Darling” from 1962 and saw the main character wearing a tartan style plaid skirt together with a tight fitting turtle neck: “so cute!”, I thought.  Afterwards I ended up looking at my 60s themed style books and now it is official: I am in love with all kinds of plaid skirts! I already have a few plaid skirts (in shades of brown and in black & white) but this autumn I have grown to like also the red version. I used to have a tiny pleated red plaid skirt when I was about 14 but at some point I started to dislike it a little and since then I haven`t worn check skirts in red. Right now instead of wearing a super tiny plaid skirt I think that the ideal length for me would be the little longer midi version.

My third favourite skirt style for A/W 2016 would naturally be a leopard skirt! This autumn an a-line leopard skirt is apparently also a trendy item because I keep seeing them everywhere and I personally find them super cute too! Unfortunately many of the skirts I have been eyeing have seemed super short and right now would prefer something that covers my butt even if I bend over a little. :’) I generally notice myself liking a little longer skirts than before: maybe I am getting old… :’)

TOPS: a ribbed turtle neck

My choice for “the must have top” for this season would be a ribbed turtle neck. Ribbed tops have been popular for a while already (maybe even for a few years..?) and I also personally like their texture! Turtle necks keep you (hopefully) warm and they create a nice vintage inspired look worn together with many skirts and they are great for layering. One of my favourite A/W 2016 looks is a slip dress worn over a turtle neck! This autumn my favourite colours in turtle necks are naturally red, beige and black.

fluffy knit cardigans

Last year I was kind of obsessed about fluffy things (especially eyelash cardigans and such) and I still adore fluffiness but I am starting to prefer a little more “toned down” look. Fifi Chachnil’s cruelty free angora knits probably present the “ideal kind of fluffiness” for me but owning one myself remains as my dream for now since the quality has its price. :’) I am not sure if it is partly a coincidence or not (Fifi Chachnil seems quite popular in Japan) but I feel that this autumn many Japanese brands are offering a bit similar style cardigans. Long cardigans seem to be especially trendy this year but I am currently personally more into the shorter ones.

berets_topshops

HEADWEAR: berets

I have worn berets on and off for years and this autumn I like them a lot again! Berets are perfect for a “wanna-be-Parisian-girl” look and once again they are super timeless. Currently I like especially berets in – once again: red (the ultimate favourite!), black (goes with everything) and in leopard pattern (I might need one, ught!). Btw: am I the only one who sometimes finds it suprisingly confusing to find berets that fit you “just the right way”?

60s_hairbows_actresses1

velvet hair ribbons

I am personally quite bad at using accessories and I hardly wear any jewellery or such. Hair ribbons are my expection and lately I notice myself wearing one almost every other day! In Larme magazine hair accessories like different kinds of ribbons are commonly used and I also love how some vintage actresses (Catherine Deneuve, Anna Karin, Brigitte Bardot…) used to wear them. I find hair bows super cute and they instantly add some girlyness to your outfit. I wish people wore hair ribbons more often these days too!

This autumn I love especially velvet ribbons and at least from Japanese brands they are kind of easy to find. Etsy is probably another great source for all kinds of hair ribbons and if you are a crafty person you can probably make one yourself quite easily. ;)

This post turned out a little longer than I expected but hopefully reading about my inspirations was somewhat interesting to some of you! :’) Are you inspired to dress up for the autumn and winter? What kinds of things you look forward wearing this year? :)
